Celtic 2 Hibs 0 – 11th May 2008

The title race in 2007-08 was bizarre, to say the least. A series of postponed games due to a bad winter, combined with Rangers UEFA Cup final run, led to a fixture pile-up that would result in the season being extended by four days. This was Celtic’s penultimate league match of the season, and the hoops started the match 1 point ahead of Rangers, who had a game in hand – but who would now have to play four games in nine days, three of those their remaining league matches. A win for Celtic was vital.

Stephen McManus eased the nerves in the 36th minute, heading home from a Nakamura corner. Celtic could have extended their lead. Nakamura hit the post with a wonderful free kick attempt, and Scott McDonald missed a couple of chances. Finally, with just 3 minutes remaining, Barry Robson fired in a free kick from the right hand side. It was flicked, and there was Scott McDonald to head home from close range at the back post. Hibs finished with just 9 men.
